Light Headedness, Feeling Weak, & Headaches

Hello,

I have been feeling light headed for several months and the symptoms are definitely getting worse.  I have done lots of searching on the internet and found various articles that discuss this issue - but I have identified that there are numerous posts relating to this disorder and it is very difficult to find any recommendations on how to cure this problem.  I stumbled on this website and I found that a user called bahama_boy posted the below message in this forum and the symptoms are identical to mine - furthermore he is the same age as me!  I was so hoping that the discussion thread would be more lengthy with a conclusion of some sort but this is not present.

If by any chance bahama_boy is still part of this forum I would be exceptionally interested in knowing how he resolved this problem - or whether he has resolved the problem.

I would be interested in knowing of other people who are suffering from these exact symptoms.  I would like to work together with a group of people to help us collectively resolve this horrible feeling.

Finally, if any advice can be provided by Doctors reading this thread I would be very grateful if you could give your recommendations.  If you need any additional information please contact me.

In summary my symptoms are:

-Tightness or restrictive pressure feeling in the middle of chest

-feeling sensation of a strap across my forehead sometimes

-constant Dizzy light headed feeling

-very light headaches

-my energy level fluctuates from day to day.  some days feeling really bad and other days feeling not so bad (I never feel good!).

-I always feel fatigued / tired.

-my arms and legs feel numb/tingly (this is not major *apparently* as I have had a check up with my Doctor).

34yrs-Male, non-drinking -non smoker- No known family history of heart problems, Mother and father with hi-blood and hypertension.

6 years of migraine headaches with avg of 2-4 attacks a year.

High stress, memory is not as good as it used to be also ability to concentrate is not so good either due to feeling lightheaded.

During the past 18 months I have found that my energy levels have dropped, I am feeling more and more fatigued and my light headedness feeling is getting worse.  These symptoms are definitely gettingt worse and I need to stop this trend otherwise soon I will feel too poorly to even do more job.

My neck aches - but this is probably due to me working on a computer thus sitting in the same position constantly.  I did however read that anxiety and dizziness can be related to having the first and second vertebrae of the neck out of place - and this can potentially be resolved by visiting a chiropractor - I will be investigating this (reference http://forums.wrongdiagnosis.com/archive/index.php/t-2861.html).

No loss of weight.

I do have stomache / bowel problems - my stomache is frequently irritable and I find that most nights I awake due to the mild stomach pains I receive.  Also, I frequently awaken during the night to go to the toilet and urinate (sometimes 2-3 times per night!).  Generally my quality of sleep is poor - but I do try and get between 8-10 hours sleep every night.  When I awaken I never feel revitalised - I still feel very fatigued and this is a horrible way to start the day.  I also awake dizzy and have a mild headache which generally lasts a few minutes.  My thought process here is that the poor quality sleep may be causing me to feel lightheaded as my body has not had an opportunity to rejuvenate fully.  Hence if I resolve my stomache pains and bowel problem this could result in some quality sleep which will resolve the dizzyness problem.  Just a guess...

Finally, I do not think stress is the main issue here.  I do have a stressful job but I recently went on a holiday for 3 weeks and did not think about work at all!  However I still suffered from the exact same symptoms and felt just as bad.

If anyone can provide some advice I would *really* appreciate it....

Best regards

Spencer

-Tightness or restrictive pressure feeling in the middle of chest

very light headaches

33yrs-Male, non-drinking -non smoker- No known family history of heart problems, Mother and father with hi-blood and hypertension.

10 yrs of migraine headaches with avg of 2-4 attacks a year usually between the months of July and Nov, I used to have problems with my sinus.

High stress (job and two kids with SS-decease and relationship stress),ALSO NOTICABLE SHORT TERM MEMORY LOSS OVER PAST 6 YEARS.

No loss of weight, extreme pain to ear during return air travel in early august 2003 while recovering from a flu, departure flight was ok (period before return was 2 weeks).

I've been feeling tired and dizzy, kinda drugged-light head feeling for the past 6 weeks. I sometimes feel the sensation of band across my forehead and would rub my head to rid the feeling.

Twice the dizziness got to the point where I felt out of control and or lose my balance (sitting and walking).

Recently in the 7 days I developed discomfort in my chest more like a restriction to breathing with the feeling of mild pain

and pressure that builds where a good cough seems to relieve it some. The sometimes dull and mild pain seems to move from center to upper chest between the nipple and center.

The two occasions When the dizziness became extreme, I had an EKG done, blood works, ENT exam and x-rays, the results were

good except for my cholesterol being a little high at 211 and the ENT where I was told I had a mild ear infection.

Still using the medication for the past 13 days and I'm not feeling any better.

Oh I almost forgot to mention I was in a car crash where I was knocked from the rear, I did  feel a little soar in the neck area a few hours after but after 3 to 4 days everything seem OK (just thought I should mention it!)

Medication List:

Claritine 10mg (one a day for 10 days-completed)

B-COMPLEX Capsules (one a day)

MAG-OX 400 TAB (one a day -30 TABS @ 5 X REFILLS)

AMOXICILLIN (AMOLIL) 500MG (ONE CAP THREE TIMES A DAY - FOR 10 DAYS)

AMITRIPTYLINE (APO) 10MG TAB (RU) - GENERIC FOR ELAVIL (ONE A DAY AT BED TIME)

SORRY FOR THE LENGTHY TEXT... JUST DON'T KNOW WHATS GOING ON....PLEASE HELP, THANKS

I'm a 16 yr old girl. I've been getting light headed, dizzy, sick and to the point of passing out for years. In fact for the last 2 years it has gotten so bad that when I get up or wake up in the mornings I can't see a thing because my vision has gone black. I have really low blood pressure.

The best way to avoid being dizzy and light headed is to drink a lot of water and have proteins or something with high energy in.
I find that eating cheese is a really good source of energy that helps.

Some people say that if you put your head in between your knees to get the blood flowing to your head will cure your problem.
it doesn't most of the time. If you're dizzy from lack of blood flowing to the brain then yes it will work. In other cases like starvation, lack of energy, temperature and lighting (in some cases) it won't work. In fact it could also make you feel so much worse, because it wont loosen the light headed and dizziness and it would also make you feel really sick if your problem is not lack of blood flowing to the brain.

if you have this problem it could be of many things I've learnt from experience or from others.
- Lack of sunlight
- lack of vitamins and minerals
- anemia
- hunger
- low blood pressure
- high blood pressure

So the best ways in general to get through this is maintaining vitamins and minerals, a diet that works with your issue (if low blood pressure like me, make sure you have at least a little bit of salt in your diet, and also of course having back energy foods and water with you if you feel rough)

I hope this helps to whoever reads this. I still am battling through this myself and finding new and safe ways to stop this from getting in the way of my day.

Hi everyone!
I read all of your posts and feel i can completely relate to you all. A little over a year ago I was visitng my parents and went to the movies as we were leaving the theater my heart was beating fast, i just assumed i got up to fast or something. As we got back to my parents house it didn't slow down they tookme to the ER and saidthat I was dehydrated and my potassium level was low at 3.0 my bpm was around 120. Ever since that 1st incident i felt like my health has drastically gotten low. I don't feel like myself anymore. I'm always weak and tired have no energy can't fully concentrate always feeling out of it. When ever I feel weak my neck and upper back feels very soft and tender but when i'm not as tired/weak my skin feels tight. so weird. My upper back does hurt for no reason like if I have been exercising which I can't because i am so weak. I also get this weird sensation feeling in my chest area like if my chest it empty and is kind of hard to breath at times feeling weak from my back to my chest. No matter how much I sleep I am still tired. A  2nd incident happen again where I had heart palpitations and my potassium level was again at 3.0 and my heart was at 144 bpm. It came out of nowhere while i was driving and I immediatley called 911 because I thought I was having a heart attack. I saw a cardiologist and said that it's common for women to have palpitations and didn't want to do any tests or put me on a heart monitor - but said that I could go and get an ultrasound just to have a peace of mind. My family is healthy no heart problems just high blood pressure. I am a 27 year old female who eats healthy and exercises on a daily basis and does Yoga. I went to see my primary care doc today and they are running more  test. He thinks because of my IBS it's probably from chronic fatigue. I know there is something wrong with me it's not all in my head. I have been that type of person that has anxiety and worries a lot but this is different and know it's not me being paranoid. Any ideas on what it could be? Please help! I just want to feel normal again! Thank you!

Hi, A lot of the symptoms listed in these posts are related to adrenal fatigue, and/or chronic fatigue syndrome. I have found the two books listed below to be very helpful in dealing with these major health problems.

If your blood tests, scans, are coming back negative for thyroid, iron, brain lesions, etc, and your doctor doesn't know what's wrong it can be adrenal fatigue (partially anyway), and or chronic fatigue sydrome. Check out Adrenal Fatigue: a 21st century syndrome. A classic but best book on the subject. Eat frequently and lots of protein, salt, and Vit C. No stimulants and lots of rest.  Bed before 10pm sleep as long as possible. Other symptoms are low blood pressure (not always), low body temp (not always), slow heart rate (not always),  weight loss or gain.

Another thing to address is sinus issues. Chronic sinus problems equally chronic fatigue syndrome. Dr. Teitelbaum sites and books at www.endfatique.com address sinus problems and all things chronic fatigue. Best book on Chronic fatigue and health in general.

Edd-  Glad to hear a  good breakfast made you feel better.
I think if these symptoms described by all above seem to be a constant occurance. It is best to go to the doctor and request a blood test. This will highlight any vital vitamin deficiency or abnormal sugar levels. Early diabieties or iron deficiency etc. Dont just try and battle through each day, get it checked out! Good luck everyone.

Hello. My symptoms include feeling weak, slight dizziness and feeling a bit cloudy in the head (and slight confusion). I am only 21 years old so my symptoms won't be as profound as people older than me. I have a few things that really seem to help me; just this morning I was looking this up and reading all of these entries, feeling a bit weak and dizzy, and I realised I'd had no breakfast. I had a bowl of porridge and a glass of squash (with sugar) and told myself it is all in my head and immediately I started feeling better. Even if the food and sugar acts as a placebo it helps, so my advice is to consume carbohydrates and glucose and think this is the perfect remedy. I study human biology and I know how strongly a placebo can effect the mind, weather it be with dealing with pain, or other mental health issues.

I wish you the best of luck as my watered down version is still horrible and has cost me a couple of un-contracted, part-time jobs. Please tell me if  this has helped in any way.

Thanks, Edd.

iv had alot of the symptoms as alot of you people.i was going to the doctors and hospital every other day.felling dizzy, sick, weak, body shaking, consnstrate problems, memory loss, sleeping problems, digestive problems, constapation, tired all the time.i have tried all the meds for all the problems mentioned above.to be honest i met a private doctor who just knew my problems not like my gp trying to give me anti diprests.the doctor i met was a herbalist gp.the first thing i had done was a full body detox.believe you me i felt so good the next day.iv not felt like that in about six months.its could a colon cleansing.its really good.the human body needs cleansing from inside and this is the only way.the life style we all have is so stressful and our diets are bad.we all need our body mind to be stress free. i was given herbal medication which had no side effect.herbal meds are really good.i now the are not cheap, but your health is really important.there is nothing that can buy you good health.i would recemend you have a colon cleansing and change your diet with walking and execise.do light walking and 2 to three times light execise a week to start off.take things one at a time.dont rush.good luck for everyone.

I AM 22 YEARS OLD FEMALE, AND ABOUT A WEEK AGO AT WORK I WAS WALKING BACK FROM LUNCH AND BASICALLY PASSED OUT.  LAYED DOWN ON THE FLOOR, HEART BEATING REALLY FAST, SWEATING, AND FEELING REALLY DIZZY.  WENT TO DOCTOR NEXT DAY AND WANTED TO TAKE BLOOD BUT I FELT TO DIZZY TO GIVE BLOOD AND SAID WHEN I FEEL BETTER I WILL GIVE THE BLOOD.  HE TOLD ME YOU PROBABLY HAVE VERTIAGO.  THAT SUNDAY WENT TO HOSPITAL WITH SAME FEELINGS.  MORE OF A UNSTABLE DIZZY ( NOT ROOM SPINNING) JUST LIKE I CANT STAND UP CAUSE I FEEL LIKE IM GOING TO FALL OVER.  THEY GAVE ME MED FOR THE DIZZINESS AND IT DIDNT HELP AND BY THE WAY GAVE BLOOD AND TOOK TESTS AND EVERYTHING CAME OUT FINE. MONDAY CAME DIDNT GO TO WORK AND TUES WENT TO ENT WHO TOLD ME I PROBABLY HAVE A VIRUS OR INFLAMMATION IN MY INNER EAR. SO HE GAVE ME STERIODS LIKE 6-1 PACK.  SO I STAYED HOME THAT WHOLE WEEK FROM WORK.  THAT WEEKEND WENT TO HOSPITAL AGAIN CAUSE I JUST WAS FEELING SO BAD HEADACHE, PRESSURE IN EARS AND FEELING UNSTABLE.  IM GOING FOR A MRI THIS WEEK.  I FEEL LIKE IM GOING CRAZY.    BY THE WAY I AM FIT AND NEVER REALLY HAD ANY PROBLEMS AND IM A POLICE OFFICER.

I had a head injury from falling and sustained a mtbi or major concussion which went undiagnosed for a month.
You may want to check out post concussion syndrome as your symptoms sound similar to mine expecially the loosing energy fast that happened to me then  I would feel dizzy and disorientated, Ive had headaches since it happened more like head pain on the forehead, the top of my head and the back. They moved around. A lot diffrent than your average headache as well as strange tingles in the brain periodically. I dont have chest pains but have had with anxiety which you may have as well from not getting sleep and worry. There are some good sights to look at for post concussion syndrome and it does not show on a catscan. You may want to see a neurologist. I saw 3 doctors then a neurologist who knew exactly what I had a described all my syptoms. Rest Rest and more rest is what I need. You tube has good information as well.
Hope this helps

hi spencer, all your symptoms are mirror to mine to a tea, the dizziness and feeling of fainting has been a very new thing but has taken me by complete suprise, and is very very scarey, i have seen a doctor who is sending me for tests but i have still yet to get them done, my sleep patterns have also gotten worse and my sleep is unbearable, hard to get to sleeep and hard to stay asleep, i have been having these problems now for the last two years and they are getting worse but i feel like a hypocondriac or nobody seems to understand the stop it puts on your life, i have days every week where i can pass out and sleep all day and nothing can wake me its as if something else has taken over my body, i was once asleep for a week solid and no one could fully wake me, it scares me to bits as i have little children at home. i truly hope you have had some respite or answers to your symptoms and if so would really love to hear about them or even just an update.....   mel :)

Wow, everything u wrote is just as I would write it myself. Chest pains, dizziness: almost as if I cannot hold myself up because I'm so weak at the same time. light headed, headache, tightness of chest, fatigued,  migrane, stress, neck ache, stomach ache within last week or two. I had an MRI of my brain because of recent head injury. That was ruled out. I went Tuesday morning 4 blood work to c if anything will show up there. I had to leave work early yesterday because I was feeling that bad I could not finish my work which is intense @ FedEx graveyard shift. I called in tonight because I am still very weak.

Hi Spencer,

Just like to know if you were able to resolve your problem. I am basically suffering the same fate as yours, only i do not get chest pains.  But the dizziness, troubled sleep and all that, i get also. At first i suspected that i have lightheadedness due to lack of sleep or is it because i have allergic rhinitis.

basically my symptoms are : constant lightheadedness
troubled sleeping (occasional stomach ache that disturbs my sleep also)
unstable feeling (feeling of tumbling down anytime)
fatigue and low energy levels
sneezing or clogged nose (due to rhinitis i think)

And most of your other symptoms i get sometimes.  But what's bothering me is that this lightheadedness is beginning to hamper my day to day activity.  I feel sluggish and uneasy all day.

I hope you can share with us if you've resolved this problem already.
