MRI impression section - please help to understand

Following is the MRI report for my mom who is 54 years old.

Please help to understnad the severity and also what kind of treatment should be given? Does this require a surgery?

diffuse degenerative changes involving l5 s1 disc
central right postero lateral protrusion at l5 s1 blocking the right lateral recess
bilateral lysis noted at l5 s1 with grade i listhesis of l5 over s1


central and left postero lateral protrusion of d5-d6 and d6-d7 disc is present indenting the cord and narrowing left neural xoramina
annular bulging of d3-d3 disc is also present
suggested clinica correlation

She is also diabetic. I am really worried if a surgery would give her a permanent relief.

I have asked her to meet the neurosurgeon and get an opinion, as per your suggestion.

Hi there. The mri says blocking of blocking of l5 s1 lateral recess, and posterolateral protrusion of d5 d6and d6 d7 disc apart from disc bulging and  spondylosis. These can be tried to ease by physical therapy, NSAIDs and epidural steroids are other options.  Surgical decompression can be considered once these options fail and prove ineffective. Consult your neurologist who will give you the correct opinion as per the clinical presentation and neurological deficit. Take care
