Mental "blanks"

I am a 31 year old female. I have been suffering from this issue for years and I am not sure what's my diagnosis. I am bilingual and I use both languages as one and it's very difficult for me to articulate myself very well. I often feel that while I am talking my mind just goes blank. It's like driving 80 MPH and then all of a sudden my thoughts come to a complete stop. This gets worst when I am nervous or when I am upset.  Also, it's extremely difficult for me to concentrate on something. It's very unlikely of me to finish most things that I start, especially when it comes to reading. I need many breaks in order to finish reading a book or an article. I am not sure if this is a cognitive or mental health issue. Please help these mental "blanks" are really frustrating.

Hi Doctor
I read your comments. I had what sounds to be a similiar issue to this lady above.
It wasnt about language mastering in my case though....I went from being very articulate to having these mental blanks and unable to recall what I was thinking doing- the thoughts just vanish and it was like trying to catch a mozzie flying about my ear- the thoughts were elusive and weren't to be caught again.....i just kept losing the train of thought gone. In my case it was anxiety upsetting my ability to concentration etc
I adopted lifestyle changes and slowly the issue resolved...then it came back then resolved again when I worked on managing anxiety through various techniques
hope this adds something to the above ladies solutions/insights

Hi,

Thanks for writing in.
This does not seem to be a neurological problem as of now. You need to master both languages so that you can hold a conversation in one language at a time. There are language learning institutes which can help you.
Lack of interest and focus is the cause of not being able to read too much. Do some concentration and memory enhancing exercises like solving puzzles etc to improve concentration. Regular physical activity will also increase your mental alertness.
Take care!
