Muscle/Joint discomfort and strange feelings

Hello,  about 8 months ago I began having odd feelings in my legs.  When I would lay in bed my legs would ache as if I had ran a marathon, even with little daily excersise.  This has continued, but has changed as well.  The feelings are so strange to me.  They are not always in the same spot, like they migrate all around my body.  I have them in my feet, my thighs, my calfs, my hands, forearms, biceps, sides of my groin.  I also have discomfort in my knees, and wrists, and ankles and fingers.  Some times feels like muscle pain and sometimes like joint pain.  I have also noticed some "throbbing" in my left arm and my left leg.  The pain is in both sides of my body, but the throbbing has only been on the left thus far.  I can actually lay in bed and feel my heart beat in my leg.  I can also sometimes feel it in my left arm.  I have experienced some sharp shooting pain my thighs, but haven't had this in a few months now.

I have seen my Family Docotor and he has kind of blown me off as though this is something we'll just have to keep an eye on.  He did do basic blood work and found nothing out of the ordinary.  I just feel so strange all the time.  I can walk, and jog and lift everything that I have always been able to.. I haven't really noticed any weakness, just soreness and discomfort.  The feelings of "throbbing" and "movement" inside my arms and legs sometimes tends to freak me out.

I also did have for about 3 days last week, a painful jaw.  Both sides of my jaw ached and felt odd.  The left side of my face gets "tingly" sometimes as well and the left side of my bottom lip has "throbbed".

I know these are all kinds of odd symptoms, and I'm as confused as anyone.  Searching online only gives me hundreds of possible conditions.  Some very serious, some very treatable.

If anyone has any suggestions or ideas of what this may be I would greatly appreciate it.

I'm a 29 year old male.  Never had any major health issues.

Thanks in advance.

Hi there, I know this post is really old but I have to write this because you are the first person I've ever seen that has described all of my symptoms and I'm wondering how your getting along. I have had this for 15 years now and it's not good, I can tell you that. But I still have no answer and right now it's 2am and I can't sleep from that strange pain in my muscles. I have progressed to having a lot of muscle weakness and malaise. Do you get nausea at all? Well I hope you can let me know how your getting on and if you ever found any answers. Thanks

It's been a few weeks since I was in here.  I have since had blood test done for Lyme Disease and they came back negative.  My family Dr. is finally referring me to a Neurologist.  My syptoms have become very annoying.  I get light headed when I look up suddenly, I have lost my balance a few times due to this.  I've also noticed muscles in my arms and hands "twitching" frequently.  It will start in one small area and continue on and off all day.  I watched the top of my hand 'move around' for several mins yesterday.  Upon having the EMG done I was informed by the gentleman doing the test that he believes I have Restless Leg Syndrome.  (not something he got from the EMG but rather from our discussion).

I have also just had the worse ear infection I've ever had and the first I can remember since I was a child.  I doubt that plays any roll in all of this, but it did leave me pretty drained the past few weeks.

Is Rheumatoid Arthritis something I should be considering?

I have found myself in a similar situation. I am curious if you found relief?
And me. Has anyone had a result?

When I read your posting I was surprised how similar the symptoms have been to what I have been experiencing the last few months. I have most of the same symptoms with the exception of the throbbing. I have had shooting pain from my shoulder to my palm that has woken me in the middle of the night, and pain on the bottom of my feet along with my feet feeling very hot, also woken me up at night.  I always feel worse in  the morning (sore like I have done a heavy manual labor) and improves once I start moving around. I have also noticed that I sometimes have some difficulty swallowing and my throat and below my jaw feels stiff and aches. Symptoms have occur mainly at night but have also occured during the day but not as intense. I spoke with my doctor and she thought these  symptoms may be do to my Vitamin D deficiency.  I was treated for this and now I am on a daily dose of Vitamin D 1000 IU. I had originally went in for left side pain that I had been experiencing for a few months (this pain had come and gone over the last year and half but the pain seemed to be occuring more frequently.)I I still have the side disconmfort and test have been unconclusive. I go back to see my doctor in January if my symptoms have not improved. My physician stated she would then put me through a bone and muscle study.
Have you considered Rheumatoid Arthritis?

Lymes has so many different symptoms and yours do fit with Lymes although many of the symptoms of Lymes are consistent with other illnesses. There is a lyme section in this forum that may give you a better idea of some of the symptoms of Lyme disease. Good luck in your search! Mya

can lyme disease cause these types of symptoms?  Pains in arms and legs, muscle and joints.  I have also had bouts of waking up slightly dizzy and getting dizzy when moving my head suddenly.  Not all symptoms are constant, pains come and go.

Just not sure if Lyme Disease can cause these or not.

Thanks

PS. My doctor has only scheduled me for a EMG on my left arm since it's the one that I experience the most "odd" feelings in.  But nothing about my legs.

Hi,

Thanks for writing back.
Your symptoms at the moment are nonspecific. Have you undergone a complete neurological exam?
One of the characteristic features of upper and lower motor neuron damage is positive babinski or planter reflex.

You can undergo a neurological exam which will include this reflex. Take care!

I would recommend following up with you doctor. I was misdiagnosed with fibromyalgia and now the doctors know I have a neurological condition they just do not have a name for it. Let's hope it's fibromyalgia. As I know all too well doctors love to throw the fibromyalgia diagnosis around. Dr Noopur frequently tells people on this site they probably have fibromyalgia when there symptoms are very concerning and sound a lot more serious than fibro. Have you considered Lyme disease? Take care M

Thank you for your concern.  I did email my family doctor about these possibilities and he isn't too responsive.  Just wants me to come back for a follow-up in a month to check on my symptoms.

Should I be concerned or not?  I cannot just ignore the pains, discomforts and throbbings I have been feeling and do feel on a daily basis.  It's not always the exact same parts of my body but I do have the pains and discomforts on a daily basis.  A friend of mind did some research and is suggesting that the symptoms could be related to ALS.  This has me really concerned now as you can imagine.

The first symptoms started over 8 months ago, I don't think they are just going to go away on their own as my Doctor seems to think.  I'm not sure if this would make any difference or not, but over 2 years ago I had pains in my left chest area.  I went to my family doctor about that and he did an EKG and chest x-ray and found nothing wrong.  The pains came and went for months.  They still do from time to time as well, but not like they were 2 years ago.

I thank you for your time and expertise.

Hi,

Thanks for writing in.
Your symptoms could be because of excessive fatigue, anxiety and sleep deprivation. I would suggest you to take it easy for the next few days, relax as much as you can and eat and sleep on time.
Other possibilities include fibromyalgia and chronic fatigue syndrome. Chronic fatigue syndrome occurs usually after a viral infection. Please discuss these possibilities with your family doctor and let us know if you need more information.
