Musical Hallucinations

Dear Doctor,

Please help me. Since October 2008 I have musical hallucinations. At that time they weren't on a daily basis, but since mid-November it"s every day since I wake up, when I go out, follows me everywhere. They don't come from my brain, they're everywhere I am. These hallucinations persent themselves as church bells banging and banging violently together. It is awful, because sometimes become very loud, and they also follow me to bed at night and don't let me sleep.
I live in Canada where this kind of hallucination is considered very rare. I have an appointment with a neurologist on
Marcj 10, THAT IS TWO MONTHS FROM NOW ! They are driving me crazy !
I have a psychiatrist who follows me, ad I asked hime for help. He said he could not help me because that type of hallucination is very rare, and he scheduled me an appointment with a neurologist specialized in musical hallucinations.
I live in Canada, where the weather is freezing. I asked my psyciatrist if I could have Lyme Disease, and he said tthat Lyme Disease is an infection produced by a deer tick, in places with warm weathers.
What is wrong with me ....(I don't know where the question mark is)
Please, help me !
Thank you so much !
Diana

Hi, I've songs in my head for 15 years........
I'm from Hong Kong, ... is there anyone from Hong Kong?
I'm just found this web site 1 month ago and I'm so glad that I'm not the only one.....
but this problem has severely affect my life.
I can't have my own mind when talking to people or watching television.
The songs just play repeatedly & random in my mind, even if I just sitting here. I feel comfort only when I listen to music or songs so that I can have my mind be still and stop thinking of music.
I'm so depressed, collapsed that no one understand me, including my family & friends.
I started went to mental doctors and psychologist many years ago but the situation remain the same. I took 40mg seroxat every night before sleep now but useless. But the situation become even worst if I stop took seroxat. I thought is is because I've too seroxat for many years and my body have already 'live' with' it.
But I'm just wonder would seroxat really help me?
The doctor just give me seroxat in every medical appointment.
My life, my relationship has been destroyed by this problem....
I hope we can all be healed and recover by this year, as I know it is painful to have problem for even just 1 day!

They  were rare in 2000 but much less so now.  I've had tinnitus since 2003 and MH since 2010.  I am a 55 yr old male with hearing loss and previous cervical fusion in C4-6.  I am not sure if there are any causal relationships there.  Clonazepam low doses helped for about 16 months and oxcarbazepine helped for no more than 4 weeks.  MH often leadss to severe panic attacks for me.  I don't know what else can help now.

Did you ever get a diagnosis?  Lyme Disease can indeed cause loud ringing in the ears.  Your psychiatrist is woefully misinformed as Lyme is everywhere in Canada and the US.  Here in the US, it's most frequent in New England and the upper Midwest, not exactly what anyone would call "warm weather."

Hi,

Thanks for writing in.
It is a very unusual symptom and it is difficult to give a straightforward answer.
It is important to note that these are very rare hallucinations. Some correlation has been worked out between musical hallucinations and OCD, Major depressive disorder, panic attacks and shizoaffective disorder.
It is good that you will be undergoing a neurological exam as nothing can be said for sure without a complete clinical exam.
Good luck!
