NEUROGENIC BLADDER - TETHERED CHORD

Male, 17, NEW DELHI, India, member since Aug 2011
I am a 17 year old school going  boy. 168cms tall and weight of 45kgs. Had bi-lateral congenital dislocated hips corrected in infancy by closed reduction. Diagnosed with obstructive uropathy. Had frequent instances of UTI till 5 yrs of age. Minor OT procedure to loosen foreskin (phim ... [More] osis) done in late 1998. Instances of UTI did not recur after the procedure. Under Homeopath care for constitutional health. Incontinence manifested significantly in Nov 2009. Diagnosed as "Neurogenic Bladder" and administered oxybutinine and prophylactic antibiotics. Instances of UTI occurred and managed with antibiotic drugs and injections. MRI revealed tethered chord (spine). Advised surgery to remedy tethered chord. Blood creatinine levels which used be 0.7 to 0.8 in the past years is now ranging between 0.8 to 1.3. Bed wetting is a consistent problem since infancy and even now except for 5 to 6 weeks in 2008. Please educate me about the prognosis of getting the tethered chord surgery done or left as it is.

Hi...I have a question, is ur tethered cord the result of scar tissue from the first surgery, or is ur tethered cord congenital?

Having the release surgery can result in needing redone as scar tissue can form and re tether the cord...u have to look at symptoms and how bad ur bladder is.

U may want to look into cathing....to avoid the bedwetting......

Also, have u had a MRI of the brain?

There r other conditions that tethered cord can be associated with, syringomyelia and chiari malformation...it is good to rule them out.
