Nerological pain in left leg

I suufer with mechanical back pain for long time. In past I have had facet joint injections twicw which did give me releif for some.
Two months ago a had a recent episode of pain. This was totally different to what I had experienced in past. I have pain going through to my left leg going down to ankle. There is numbness and weakness in this leg and I have slight bladder problem which was not there before.
None of the pain killers helped me, this includes - Co-codomol, Declofanic, Zydol. Finally I was prescribed Lyrica which helped. My pain is still there and there is numbness and weakness is there.

I have had an MRI last Friday. The findings are -'There is a posterior annular disc ruppture and sequestrated disc noted at the L4/L5 level that is causing compression and displacementof the left L5 nerve root, and possibly also the left S1 nerve root'.

I have been reffered to Neurosugery and waiting to hera from them.

What is your advice would I have to go for surgery?
My quality of life is affacted and I can not afford to be off work for long time.
Please help
Thanks

Thanks,
I have seen a pain consultant yesterday. He is offering an epidural injection. I am also waiting for Nerosurgery appointment. I am not sure if I should go for the epidural before my Neuro appointment as it will mask my symptoms. At the same time I have had enough of pain and my work is suffering as well. Please advise

Hi,

How are you?
There is a possibility that you may have to undergo back surgery since you have nerve compression due to disc rupture. Surgery can be decompression surgery like laminectomy. Spinal fusion surgery is another option if the symptoms are severe. It is difficult to tell without a neurologic examination if surgery is the only option.
Have you tried conservative options like physical therapy and rehab therapy?
