Neurological Disease

About a year ago a family member started having car accidents due to what she described as her foot going numb causing first a minor then a more major accident (last accident was April of 2010).  From that point forward she began having trouble judging distances,  lack of stability walking/going up/downstairs. Since this time she has been moved to a medical bed in her room and a wheel chair.  She has high anxiety. She has been to at least 2 neurologists, nothing is coming up on MRIs or any blood work and they seem to have no idea what this could be so she is not receivig any treatment at this point.  She is now having vision problems she has some trouble with cognative related abilites.  Our family is at a lost and she is just getting worst, any recommendations?

As MMahan suggested autoimmune diseases may cause these symptoms. Very little is known about them and not all of them have been identified. HERV-W is one of organisms that represents such a progressive disease. If symptoms disappear or get markedly better after administering prednisone, this suggests (but it is not definitive) that the problem is an autoimmune disorder.

Could be GBS or CIDP.  Autoimmune disease affecting the nervous system.
Neurologist should do EMG and Nerve Conduction Studies.
