Pain and Numbness in right leg

I wonder if someone could give me some advice. I attended several neurology appointments 3-4 years ago as I had a very painful shoulder and my right arm and fingers kept going numb with out any reason (i hadnt been sleeping on it or lying funny), I had an MRI scan, lumbar puncture (ouch!!) and various nerve tests and blood tests. Everything drew a blank so it was basically just a case of see what happens. For about the last 6 months both of my legs at the side of the calf have gone numb - not totally but enough for me to notice and recently over the past week I have had like an 'achy' pain in my right calf. During the original tests they were concerned about MS but that was ruled out. Could someone give me some pointers as to what might be causing this. I am a 35 year old female who smokes! We have a history of thrombosis in the family including Deep Vein Thrombosis. Thank you.

Hi, the history of deep vein thrombosis is quite a concern. Pain in calf could be due to thrombosis, Doppler ultrasound can rule it out. You should quit smoking too as it causes vascular insufficiency. Are you having swelling in leg too?

Try anti inflammatory drugs along with hot compressions for a week or so. Keep leg elevated while sleeping (put pillow under leg). This can relieve superficial vein thrombosis but not deep one.

Hi,

I'm no dr but look up Hughes syndrome[Antiphospholipid Syndrome], on the internet. If it rings any bells go to your GP and ask him for a blood test for it.I know you mentioned you had blood tests but i don't think they always test for Hughes.

Suzie.
