Persistent nubness in back of hand

Am a 21-year old female. Experiencing numbness in the back of my palm, initially the whole of the back of my hand (the area covered by the radial nerve) was numb. After a day it subsided and now it is localized to a smaller portion. sudden jolts of pain upon certain movements, but very seldom. Sensation felt but not normally, like there is a layer of thicker skin on top.
Am a dental student and really need answers.

Am studying in the Asian Institute of Medicine Science and Technology in Malaysia.. The dental school here was founded by a reknowned dean from the UK and he is our current dean. I am in my second year.
I too feel that nutritional deficiency in the case in my problem. Have a sister who is a medical student and she has been experiencing the same numbness and following symptoms. Was wondering if there might be a connection to our genetical predisposition to diabetes as our paternal grandmother died due to diabetes induced artherosclerosis of the coronary artery.
But thank you alot for the advice. It truly proved useful in my case. Will consult a physician.

Hi Tania,
Which college are you studying in? Which year are you studying?
Pain, tingling and numbness are signs of neuropathy.
Nerve involvement may be single (mono-neuropathy) or multiple (poly-neuropathy).
This neuropathy can be due to Diabetes, Prediabetes, Vitamin deficiency, and altered blood pressure status, any nutritional deficiency, and abnormal endocrine status, compression of nerve or impingement of nerve at time of exit from Vertebrae.
You should be doing HbA1C, ESR, serum protein/immuno-electrophoresis, and vitamin B12, BUN, and creatinine levels.
In your case I feel nutritional deficiency is an issue.
Keep me informed if you have any queries.
Bye.
