Popping hips releives pain

I am currently in physical therapy to relieve ongoing hip pain.   For years I have pain that builds up in my hips, however, when I pop my hips, the pain subsides.  Is there a logical explaination for this?   My Physical Therapist says that it does not make sense that I would get relief from pain......but I do.   Is this all in my head?

My current age is 45 and I am much more active than the average person.

Any info you can provide would be helpful.

Linda

Hi there. Snapping hip syndrome is a condition characterized by a snapping sensation and an audible popping noise when the hip is flexed and extended. Most common causes of this syndrome are due to tendons catching on bony prominences and snapping when hip is moved. Primary causes of snapping hip are iliotibial bandsnap, iliopsoas tendon snap and hip labral tear. An x ray hip joint is required and possibly an MRI hip. Your doctor could give you cortisone injections or anti-inflammatory drugs. Hope this helps. Take care.

Hey,

I seem to have the same issue? Have you found any relief?

It feels like the muscles/tendons around my upper thigh/hips become extreme tense, and it starts to 'bite'. Then when I flex my leg 'as an ice-skater' it pops and it feels better. I then can't pop it anymore until a few hours later...

Any ideas?
