I have been to both a GI specialist and an endocrinologist in the past. I have had two colonoscopies, both appeared normal......no one could ever figure things out. Diet never worked, Ive had this constipation curse for almost 5 years.Changing my diet did get my stored iron up from 5 to 20, I am keeping at it. I have started supplementing Vitamin D. I am seeing my regular doctor pretty often these days.....and I am going to see a neurologist....sometime in the next 1000 years.
While you are waiting to see a Neurologist, why don't you ask your PCP to start working you up to see if you have any thyroid or adrenal problems? Have you ever seen an Endocrinologist? Have you talked to him/her about the tingling? Have you seen a GI specialist about your consitpation? The way you are treating it is not ideal. There are much better medications and diets to help regulate now, and you are only making yourself dependent on these bowel stimulants, which is not healthy. You can also get your ferretin up with diet higher in iron and folic acid (iron will make you more constipated, but you can counteract this with eating things like grapes, apricots, prunes, dates, most fruits that make your bowels move). Items containing high folic acid are leafy green veggies.
Vit. D is available over the counter (OTC), and the fact that you live in Canada you are most likely on the low side. So you can start yourself on it or have your PCP draw a baseline level. Keep in mind that only 15 min. of natural sunlight a day is better than supplements when it comes to Vit D, however as the days get shorter, people living in the north often have to supplement during the winter and fall months.
You may want to consider talking with your PCP about all your problems first since you have several issues that he/she may be able to sort out for you, then see the appropriate specialist.
