RLS and Sinemet

My father has had RLS for years and taking Sinemet to control it.  Lately he has been acting differently almost like he has no control over his arms, mouth and legs.  Can taking Sinemet for a long period of time cause Parkinson or similar disorders?

Hi there. Sinemet or levodopa is used in the management of parkinsonism especially bradykinesia and rigidity apart from restless leg syndrome. though sinemet is the most effective medication and has least short term side effects, it is associated with high risks of long term side effects like involuntary movements or dyskinesia. Long term basis it may cause restlessness, confusion and abnormal movements. Take care.
