I started having electrical shocks in my left leg in about August 15th.
It started with one shock every other 2 days and now about 3-9 times a day.
The shock lasts only for one second and after that every thing is okay.
However, the shock is sometimes so strong that makes me scream because of
its surprise.
I have been diagnosed with definite pernicious anemia but I have been
taking 2000 mcg of B-12 every month for past 14 months even though I have
had low on B-12 for past 6 years.  The reason that I did not start treatment
sooner was that my doctor missed informing me of low B-12 test result
6 years ago. My previous MRI of brain showed lesions but my lumber puncture
test (4 years ago) was negative for MS.
My question:  What could be causing electrical shocks in my leg?  What is
your prognosis?  Could be lacking some kind of viatamin or mineral? Do
I need to take any special tests to diagnose the
problem?  Are there drugs to control the shock?
I would appreciate your response very much.
Thanks.

Dear Hada,
:Your symptom is interesting. Electrical shock to the left leg may be due to a local problem with nerves or maybe coming from higher up, such as the back, or even higher such as spinal cord. Vitamin deficiency, B12, namely, can cause numbness, tingling, pins and needles type of sensation but affecting both legs/feet not on one side. A good examination and careful history by your doctor shoud narrow down the possibilities.
If these shock sensation is not caused by a pinched nerve, but rather
an abnormal discharge by nerves, then there are medications that can be tried by your doctor to try control these. Your doctor may also want to do EMG to check the for nerve problems.
Meanwhile you should continue the B12 injection monthly.
Good luck.
