Sharp, random, pains in different areas of either foot

58 y/o white male, 5'9", 207 lbs.  Mild asthma, moderately elevated BP.  No other chronic issues of any kind.  I experience random, sharp, jabbing pains on the soles of my feet at various times during the day, and as I try to fall asleep some nights.  Onset approx. 1-2 months ago.  It arises in one foot or the other -- I do not have simultaneous pain in both appendages at once.  The pain is usually in the area of the ball of the foot, but not always.  It can last up to 10-15 seconds.  Then it dissipates.  There is no trauma-related or exercise-related component -- I have no known athletic injuries inducing pain of this kind.  No past foot-related issues of any kind.  No pains of this sort anywhere else in my body.
