Syringomyelia

My mother's news from the doctor, as a result of the MRI scan, is that she has Syringomyelia. Her cyst is locating near the top of the spine within the spinal cord, however is "very small". Going throught the internet, there are many mentionings of the cyst (aka: Syrinx) will grow bigger in time which will lead to complications. Being so small ,as the doctor says, is it possible for it to indeed grow larger to a dangerous extent? She recieved her first MRI scan of this 10 months ago and another one one month ago and the size of the Syrinx is exactly the same. So this leads to my final question: Is it possible that the Syrinx will remain its original size and never grow or will it non-the-less grow bigger eventually?

HI and welcome to the Chiari forum.

Many times, the syrinx can stay the same size for a long period of time....however, it is possible that a sneeze, cough or a ride over a bumpy road could set it into progressing....

Do u know if ur mom's syrinx is congenital or from trauma.

I would suggest ur mom  keep a journal of her symptoms and  call her dr if ne new ones start.
