Weights exercises for a patient with Myasthenia and Ostosporosis

Thanks to Dr. PaulMD for his answer of May 2.  Now my question is what exercise can I do with Myasthenia Gravis (I already have a myasthenic crisis) as I was diagnosed  too with Ostosporosis in my arms and the doctors recommended some weights exercises (repetitions) in order to avoid more ostosporosis...   Please recommend what to do.  I hope my Myasthenia will soon (one month) be again pharmacologicallly controlled as it was before.  Will like to know what exercises to do that will help me with my ostosporosis and at the same time keep my Myasthenia controlled.  Thanks

Your very welcome.

Best of luck with the walking.  Remember to start slow and slowly build up the amount of time you walk.

If you ever have any questions about your exercise program feel free to ask.

I hope you feel better soon!

Thanks to Patrick, definitely I will walk more and stop the weight lifting exercise, as because of those weight exercise I went back into a Crisis with my Myatenia Gracias.  Thanks God and with the increase of the Inmuran medication I am feeling a little  better and hope to completely recover from this Crisis withing a month, so I can start doing more walking in order to prevent more....  Ostosporosis.  Thanks again, Jeannette

Dear Jeannette,

My name is Patrick and I'm an exercise physiologist.  About 6 years ago I developed an exercise program for individuals suffering from Ostosporosis.  As Dr. Paul already mentioned your case is rather different becouse you also have Myathenia Gravis.  The important thing to remember is that weight-bearing exercise is what you should be doing.  Now please don't confuse weight-bearing with weight lifting.  Weight-bearing exercise can be as simple as walking since your body is working against gravity.  For this reason I always recommend simple weight-bearing activities such as walking, climbing stairs and standing up from a chair without using your arms to assist you.  The important thing for you too remember is too take it slow and work your way up.

I hope this helps, good luck!

Thanks again Dr. Paul for your advise.  Now, I have another question.  After ten years with Myathenia Gravis, going thru three Crisis that took me into the Hospital, having already three Phlasmaferis, taking Mestinon with Predisone, and for the last two years being pharmacologically controlled taking Mestinon and Inmuran 150 daily, because of the exercises again I had a "small" crisis last two weeks ago.  My Doctor increased my Mestinon every four hours and the Inmuran to 200 daily, but now he wants to increase my Inmuran to 300 a day for two weeks and then lower it to 250 for another week and to 200 after that....  I believe I am already feeling better with the increase of Mestionon and Inmuran to 200 and I am afraid to increase the Inmuran to 300 because of the side effects of same.   Would it be OK to that increase to 300 of Inmuran?....  It would be the first time I take such a high dosis.  Would like your opinion.  Thanks,  Jeannette

Hi there.

This task of weight training for your condition may be very hard to balance since if you do too much, you risk aggravating your myasthenia symptoms; you do too less, then it may not do much for your osteoporosis.  For this reason, I believe that it is best to have a consult with a rehabilitation medicine specialist (rehab med) along with his or her troop of physical therapists to plan out the ideal work-out plan for you.

I do hope your MG comes into full pharmacologic control and that everything will work out fine.  Regards and God bless.
