Had the first of 2 total knee replacement surgeries. Began experiencing severe muscle spasms. This in turn has limited my mobility to the point where I can no longer move my legs on my own.
Hello and welcome to the forum. Thanks for this question but we're really sorry this is happening to you. Obviously, please call your surgeon immediately to discuss. Doctors first often order blood tests to check your potassium levels especially but also calcium, vitamin b and d. Numbers outside of normal can relate to muscle spasms. Then they may perform kidney function, parathyroid gland function and adrenal function tests as they can result in these symptoms as well. That's probably what they would start with to rule out various things or to find the cause.
But I guess I should first ask how long ago was your surgery? Remember that overall, 9 out of 10 people have an improved quality of life post surgery so we just have to get you there! https://www.healthline.com/health/total-knee-replacement-surgery/expectations#at-home
In this special Missouri Medicine report, doctors examine advances in diagnosis and treatment of this devastating and costly neurodegenerative disease.
