Numb lower lip

I woke up yesterday morning with the left half of my lower lip numb. I figured I must have hit my mouth on something the night before after drinking heavily. It's the second day now and the numbness hasn't subsided so I've began to get a little worried. I researched online and well it didn't calm me at all. I had also shared a hookah the night before and have had a history of dipping (have recently quit) so my mind is running wild with what it might be. I am only 20 years old so leaning away from oral cancer being an issue since i haven't had any lesions or any other signs. Can someone please help?

Last Friday night while I was crocheting and talking to my husband, the lower left  side of my lip started getting numb, which then cause my chin (left side only) to become numb as well. It lasted a few minutes then went away. I did, however, noticed the next day, my lip still slightly funny.

Thank you for your question. Usually lip numbness occurs after any blood loss or nerve impingement after the lip injury. If this is not severe this numbness will resolve within a week. In the meantime, i would recommend you take any over the counter pain killers and do cold compression at site. If this doesn’t help then consult a doctor to evaluate above mentioned possibilities precisely. Hope this helps.

I would recommend first having it checked out by your dentist.  There might be an abscessed tooth (including a wisdom tooth) that could be causing the paresthesia, or signs of trauma after your night out, for example.  But you also need to make sure that something more serious isn't going on.
