back pain and schmorl's nodes

I am a 30 year old with severe back pain and a recent mri suggested "significant loss of disc space height with and signal throughout the mid to lower thoracic spine with extensive Schmorl's node formation at several levels, an unusual finding for a patient of this age.  There is no significant edema the endplates"  which he later suggests that trauma isn't the cause.  My question is if I broke my back jumping out of a plane 6 years ago could that have caused this reading or is it congenital?

thanks for any help.
