frontal lobe encephalitis

My boyfriend suffered blunt force trauma to his head about 10 years ago.  A doctor told him he has frontal lobe encephalitis, and that part of his frontal lobe has deteriorated..  I understand that your frontal lobe controls personality traits, judgement, sexual behavior, impulsiveness, spontaneity, ability to control rage and emotions, etc. We have many many many good days but occasionally if something sets him off he can't control rage outbursts and often screams, swears, punches walls, and exhibits really serious anger control issues.... Then is apologetic afterward and feels really bad about the things he said or did minutes earlier. I feel like it is almost a split personality and he can be someone completely different within the matter of seconds. I have been serarching the internet for treatments or even tips on how he can learn to control these outbursts but the only conclusion I can find that the brain damage is irreversable and uncontrollable.  I know that there has to be other solutions. Is this something that is going to continually worsen? Should he go to anger management? Should he be on some kind of medication? Please, help.

My boyfriend was in a major car accident and has frontal lobe damage.  The Neurologist that we saw told us what to expect in coming months/years.  We were told that he could have sexual problems and anger issues among other things.  Everything was ok for a while, he would get aggrivated at little things, and now sometimes he throws things says things and then appologizes for them.  But there is really nothing you can do about it because as I was told it is irreversible.

How long after the initial trauma and frontal lobe encephalitis did the outbursts start? If this has been going on for years already and the episodes of outbursts have not worsened, chances are, they are not going to continually worsen.  What has his neurologist said regarding this? Has a relationship between the condition 10 years ago and the outbursts been established by the neurologist? If no consult has been done with the neurologist on this matter, it would be advisable to do so now.  Otherwise, it might also be advisable to consult a psychiatrist regarding the rage outbursts.
