Hi.

Yes, hydrocephalus can produce papilledema, but only if the intracranial pressure is increased. Your symptoms do appear to be due to benign intracranial hypertension. But you need to exclude other causes of increased intracranial pressure first.

Was an MRI done ?

It definitely sounds like (formerly known as pseudotumor cerebri) Intracranial hypertension.  I have IH too, and those are all symptoms that are familiar.

Dear Suzanne,Did the dr's confirm you have pseudotumor cerebri? It acts just like a brain tumor wit5hout the actual tumor. It typ[ically will cause optical swelling, but in my case, they only way they knew was high spinal pressure. All o0f the symtoms you listed, wrere very typical with pseudotumor. Thsre is a grteat support group on yahoo, for people with pseudotumor cerebri. They controled my symptomes with diamox, a med, but had to eventually put a shunt in to control the high pressure. I think my shunt or part of it, is failing, but having problems with dr's taking me seriously. I am going back to the dr. tomorow, if I can even walk, I am in such horrific pain. Hope this helps. Please let me know how you are.
