is this severe anxiety?

Over the last several days I've been having "episodes" of uncontrolled muscle movements. Up to a hour before these episodes my muscle become very tight, stiff, rigid and painful. I'll have a bad headache over the top of my head. Then before I know it, my arms and legs start flailing around, and I start to groan in pain. I twist and writher, and have trouble walking, so I have to sit or lie down with these episodes start. They last anywhere between 10-30 minutes at a time. I went to the emergency room during the first episode, and was treated with Ativan. I have a prescription for Ativan that I use at home during these episodes as well. I also take Aleve.

I also become very confused during these episodes. I feel disoriented and out of place, and it takes me a moment to figure out where I'm at. I will also start to repeat my own phrases such as "I don't want any more pills" over and over again.

Is this just severe anxiety from feeling nervous about going back to college and the pain from my headache/muscles? Or is it neurological? It seems very strange.

I've read about chorea and arthetosis, but I'm uncertian. The ER doctor determined that they weren't seizure related either, just nasty anxiety. Help?

I got a second opinion, and I now have an appt. for an EEG to rule out seizures.. The Ativan sedates me but doesn't help the pain or prevent the episodes. I now take Gabapentin which seems to be more helpful.

Hello.  Does the Ativan stop the headache and muscle pain?

It's best to have a physician address this problem with you. Seizures cannot be truly ruled out in an ER setting.  Neither can migraine headaches or other headache disorder.
