papilldema

about a year and a half ago my doctor told me that i had papilldema, and told me that i was o take the medication diamox to decrease the spinal fluids going to my brain. I became pregnant and had to stop taking the medication do to it might harm the baby. Now that my son is born, I have not started my medications back as of yet. I wanted to know if I needed to start the medication back or is that something that I can do with out. I have been having headaches that normal medication does not take away, and my vision has became worse since I have had him.  But I am not seeing the spot in front of my eye like I did when I was originally told that I had papilledema. So does this mean anything. If I can get any advise it would be helpful thank you.

Hi princess and welcome to Med help. When you spoke to your dr did he tell you why you have papillodema?Or I should say did he explain the illness you probably have? Its called IIH,Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension. You are producing too much cerbial fluid which is causing the optic nerve, among other things, to swell. When the optic nerve swells it causes pain and headaches and visual problems. It is SO important to take of this as you can damage your eyesight and ultimatly lose your eye sight. Please go back and see your dr and discuss this with them! You should be under the care of an Ophthalmologist and possiblly a neurologist.
I have IIH and papillodema. If you need to ask any questions or to discuss any thing please free to contact me. Cath278

Hi There,

Papilledema occurs due to swelling of the optic disc due to raised intracranial pressure.
Severe headaches and worsening vision can occur due to raised intracranial pressure. The chances that these symptoms are due to raised intracranial pressure are more since you have a positive history of papilledema.
I would suggest you to consult your treating doctor and undergo a complete clinical evaluation.
Let us know if you have any other questions.
