what is myoclonus and what causes it

i just want to no what causes myoclonus and how you get it can you get rid of it or cure it or even take anything for it, these are things i need to no because my kidney consultan has decided that i have this but my nurse at the  pain clinic said i dont, i my self  am not sure up until i had both my kidneys removed i was basical ok then about 2 weeks after my op i started spasaming on a night and then my leg would twitch if i sat still too long i was given a butrans patch for pain in my back but as a bonus it took the spasams away as well but i dont want to be on the patches forever i want to come off theses as soon as possible if anyone has been on them they will understand as they make me itch and i scratch that much i draw blood and i can only put them in one place if i move them anyware else they dont work and this is why i want to come off them asap any info would be great and much appreciated thank you

thank you this is what my doctor has said what i have, i didnt have this until i had both my kidneys removed it started about a week to 10 days after surgary and the only thing that stops it is morphine or butrans patches, i am concerened now because i have been told that the surgon who removed my kideys has made a mess of my stomache, i have been told the scar is too big and they dont no what it has healed on to, since then in the past 2 weeks i have become very tired so much so that i go to bed at 6 at night i can sometimes get up after a few hours sometimes i sleep alnight till the next morning, i also when it gets to a set time everyday about 5 or 6 o'clock i cant eat i start feeling sick and i just end up going to bed i have excess gas, i am fine from morning till evening then it all goes wrong, i am a home hemo patient and a mother of 6 children i am really concerned now as i am in  bed befor my 8 year old can any one help me sort this out please these new syptoms have only been going on for two weeks

'Myoclonus is brief, involuntary twitching of a muscle or a group of muscles. It describes a symptom (as opposed to medical sign) and, generally, is not a diagnosis of a disease. '

'Myoclonus may develop in response to infection, head or spinal cord injury, stroke, brain tumors, kidney or liver failure, lipid storage disease, chemical or drug poisoning, or other disorders. Benign myoclonic movements are commonly seen during the induction of general anesthesia with intravenous medications such as etomidate and propofol.'
