Hi there

I had a Vagal Schwannoma and went in for surgery, doctors did not know what kind of turmor it was until the pathology results came back and by then they had cut off the tumor from both ends. (my vagus nerve with it)
I am paralyzed in left vocal fold and swallowing muscles and have many other problems

as I asked why they did not try to figure out what I had before surgery they said that the MRI is not clear enough, and that Cyber Knife has 10% chance of getting cancer after the CK treatment

is excision of V Schwannoma really the only way to get rid of them

is there any way that they can shave off the tumor from the nerve and preserve the nerve? in that case does the tumor come back

mine was skull base and I am not convince that taking the nerve out was such a good idea, comparing to the problems I am having that would have been the last thing I would wanted

I want my nerve back :(

Hi,

There is not much information on the recurrence of schwannoma. T has been found that there is increased risk of recurrence in the plexiform and giant sacral variety. Also the recurrence is more if the excision is incomplete. So care shoudl be taken to excise the tumor completely.
