i hope i am doing this right .
i was told today my mri of my back says i have a syrinx in my neck . the nurse told me i have syringomyelia,and i need to see the doctor next thursday . what is this? and does it go away ? i am in a lot of pain is there medicine for this ?

Like you I just posted a question, hope you get some answers you are looking for and you feel better soon.  I learned something similar on Thursday, just scares the heck out of you.  Hope I get some responses and figure out what kind of doctor I need to see.  Hang in there!  If I learn anything more will post it for you.

Hi,
Syringomyelia is a cavitating disorder of the central spinal cord and is usually located in the lower cervical and upper thoracic segments. A bilateral, frequently asymmetrical, segmental sensory loss of pain and temperature sensations is a common finding. Chronic pain in the impaired segments is an important complaint in approximately one-third of patients. Initially, only the pain and temperature fibers are damaged when they cross the midline, but as the syrinx size increases, the dorsal columns are also affected. Anterior expansion produces segmental areflexia, muscle weakness, and atrophy. The intrinsic muscles of the hand are often affected.
