Growth Failure in 12 year old boy with cysts

Hi, My 12 year old son has had growth failure for the last two years.  He was always in the 50th percentile for height and is now below the 5th. He has recently been diagnosed with growth hormone deficiency.  His MRI revealed an 8mm pineal cyst and a 5mm pars intermedia cyst interposed between the anterior and posterior pituitary tissue.  He also has a lot of fatigue and gets frequent headaches/nausea.   He will be starting growth hormone but we've been told that he cannot start the hormones until he sees the neurosurgeon (which is in a couple of weeks).  Do you think the cysts may have caused his growth failure?  Also, is this something that may require surgery or just monitored?

Thanks for your reply.  We saw the neurosurgeon early because of a cancellation.  He doesn't think the pituitary cyst is causing the growth failure because it's so small, but wants my son to have another mri next year.  Also, he's allowing my son to start growth hormone therapy.  I hope this is the right method.

urgent but not emergent
the pituitary tumor may be the cause
surgery could be one of the solutions
