Difference between a Nutritionist and a Dietitian?

Does anyone know what the difference is between a Nutritionist and a Dietitian is? I tried to get my insurance to refer me to dietitian but they won't cover it. Then a friend recommended I talk to a Nutritionist.
I've been having gastro problems the last couple of years. They're not sure if I have Crohn's or what. I do have the inflammation and diarrhea. And have had ulcers in the past. I can't seem to eat ANYTHING anymore. Everything upsets my stomach, even healthy foods. I just want to feel better. Is it worth going on my own to talk to a Nutritionist or is there something else I could do? Any suggestions would be great.
Thanks,
April

Oh, I meant to tell you...juice some organic carrots, celery, parsley and white cabbage together...you can make it as sweet as you want with the carrots and cabbage.  It is a soothing tonic for your gut.  Eat an apple every day.  You can half it and eat part in the am and part in the pm.  I use something called Accell from Systemic Formulas that is wonderful as well.  Also aloe vera is great.

You are welcome.  There is much to learn on this subject.  Nutrition is like the Bible…you could study it your whole life and not know it all.  Nutritional and Genetically Directed Medicine is the future of our healthcare system.  There is even a name for it…Nutrigenomics.

We cannot continue down this path we are on with medical doctors giving a drug to cover a symptom, then another drug to cover the symptom that the first drug caused and on and on and on.  I have a friend who when we visited his home this summer…my son counted 17 prescription bottles on his table.  Now…granted, he has many health problems (at the age of only 48), but I offered to share knowledge with him and his family years ago regarding nutrition and what I was learning in school and he had a deaf ear to anything I had to say.  Looks like he still thinks the medical doctors are his gods.

“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge”  Hosea 4:6

Our economy will not sustain what is coming down the pike.  Our kids are getting diabetes at ages 10 and 12!!  We now have the first generation of young people that are statistically expected to live shorter lives than us.  But, we are getting smarter as a whole and refusing to buy items with high fructose corn syrup and hormone / antibiotic laded meats and dairy products.  So, what does the corn industry do?  Well, just this month they put out a new commercial trying to convince us that high fructose corn syrup is actually good for us!!

IT’S ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YE5aSUcU3YA

It sounds like you are searching for answers.  That is wonderful that you have the desire to find out the root cause of what is going on and not just take a drug to cover us your symptoms.  There are reasons for everything.  Your gut is obviously in major dysbiosis for some reason…you just need to find out why.  You asked if I knew about the supplements you are taking.  I do and I feel that they are all of good quality.  The key with vitamins is to take “whole-food” vitamins…not synthetic ones, like “Centrum and One a Day”  (those are trash!!)…anything that is advertised on TV is usually a bad thing.

I prescribe several brands of nutritionals to my clients, including Systemic Formulas, Standard Process, Thorne, Metagenics, NutraMetrix, Natures Sunshine, Xango, and various lines of homeopathics. Everybody is different with different biochemistry and what works for one may not be the absolute best for someone else.  That is why I test using the Interactive Query System www.i2inetwork.com and Biomeridian  www.biomeridian.com technologies.

You have already begun to take some of the appropriate supplements.  First, I would look at doing a Candida cleanse.  Candida is a nasty yeast to have in your body.  It causes many, many different health problems and is even linked to cancer and everybody who has ever been on antibiotics…even once…has it.  I would also check for parasites and heavy metals.  If you need more info let me know.

It’s your health and your responsibility.  If you think it takes too much time,
too much trouble and expense to preserve it—try disease!

Hey thanks! I finally got a response! So, it might be worth it, then to see a Nutritionist? I did find out that I did have Crohns. I guess I'm in remission right now. But I do want to find out what I can eat that will help keep any more flare ups from happening and keep the stomachaches, etc., away.
I saw a specialist who said it's because I had some colon cut out that I have the diarrhea. So, he gave me a powder to take that's supposed to help break down bile.
I also just started seeing a Physical Therapist for my DDD and he is really into health food and stuff. He recommended the Liquimins Ionic Tonic trace minerals and the Garden of Life Omega Zyme. Ever heard of any of those? He also said the Alive whole foods/vitamins are good too. I've been taking a multi-vitamin, vitamin C, folic acid and fish oil.
I'm trying to better educate myself on all of this stuff. I'm thinking about trying to juice for awhile and see if that makes me feel better.
Thanks for writing. I'll check out those websites you mentioned. Thanks again!

A Registered Dietitian (RD) tends to follow the Allopathic methodology of medicine where as the Nutritionist tends to lean more Alternative/Homeopathic.  Allopathic MD's have very little education in nutrition and almost always will steer you wrong when dealing with chronic diseases having a nutritional cause.  This was the case with me.  My DO...prescribed acid blockers and Mylanta and Zelnorm (which is now banned) when what I needed were major enzymes, omega fatty acids, calcium/magnesium, fiber...etc.  He did not ever ask me what my diet or stress levels were like (NOT ONCE !!)..... before he prescribed this regimen of drugs.   Luckily, I have a BS in Cell Biology/Physiology and I knew better than to follow his recommendations.  I am now on the road to health…no thanks to allopathic medicine.   You can make up your own mind.  Allopathic medicine is great when you are in a car accident and need to have you leg set or surgery to repair a damaged organ…but it is hopeless when dealing with the chronic diseases of the day.  I have lots of things to give you to read to educate yourself if you are not sure about which side of the fence you stand.

Just a note to say...when my mother in law was in the hospital back in 2001...she shared a room with a lady who had cancer.  The registered dietitian/allopathic doctors were letting her eat sugary junk (refined apple juice, white refined sugar products).   They had no idea that sugar feeds cancer cells.  I knew this way before I got finished with my cell biology degree!!!  I can tell you too that no NUTRITIONIST I know would keep you on refined sugar when you have cancer.  Why is it that allopathic doctors do not know these things?  I can tell you why if you are interested in knowing.  You just need to follow the money in Allopathic Medicine and the Big Pharm Industry...they are in bed together.
