Fruit with or without meal?

Does anyone know why a registered dietitian would recommend eating fruit separate from meals? I am accustomed to including with a meal.

I participate in the thyroid forum.

Thanks.

Thank you for your post. I don't know if there's merit to it either.

Thanks for your post. I figured I've been eating fruit with my meals for ages without any problem.

You need to eat a balanced diet from the main food groups and eating fruit with your meals will not harm your digestive system

This is a theory from a way of eating called food combining.  This theory is based on the fact that the stomach needs to be alkaline to digest some foods and acid to digest others.  Don't know if there's merit to it, it assumes the body can't do more than one thing at a time and can't manage its time.  But it's a long-held theory among some people.
