I just found out about a week ago

I'm 31 and have always been careful. I've broken down several times since finding out. Yes I'm a guy and not the type to break down but I've always been so careful and to find out I'm infected, I've never felt so dirty and ashamed of myself, so much for using condoms. Anyways, I've read so much and I'm really glad I stumbled on this forum.  So I won't lie, I looked up herbal advice the second I was able to calm down. So I've been taking 4000 mgs of l-lysine and zinc supplements and started using Super Lysine + cream, I'm hoping it helps. I also came across something called "Get rid of Herpes". It's a book written by a Sarah Cox. I'm going to buy the book but I'm curious if anyone has read it or even tried it?  Anything else that anyone has to offer, please tell me. Thank you

I have read over and over on this forum that taking lysine does not work, but I do not agree. I was diagnosed with both HSV 1 and 2, but at that point I had never had a breakout, so the doctor did not prescribe meds. Not long after being diagnosed, i started getting that tingling feeling above my lip and on my face up to my eye. I started freaking ou . I wanted to be able to take something, ANYTHING, to prevent a breakout, not just sit around and wait for a breakout happen. So I came across the Super Lysine supplement. I took it daily 3x a day and the tingling went away. If I skipped a dose the tingling would come back (kind of my reminder "hey, take your lysine!") When I took the dose, tingling would subside. A few months passed and I hadn't gotten a breakout, so the dummy I am, I decided to stop taking the lysine. That is when I go my first vaginal breakout. The doctor prescribed valtrex. I started taking that instead. The next month (currently) I got another breakout, and I'm taking both valtrex and the lysine. I have no idea if taking both will help. That is what brought me to this site. But anyway, my point is, i feel taking lysine did help. Obviously you shouldn't expect it to prevent all breakouts. I hope the mix of both valtrex and lysine will help me..  It's trial and error I guess

Thanks for the advice. I'm still lost in this whole thing and think the initial realization that I have it took over me. As the days are going by I'm starting to think more rationally and think you're right. Thanks again.

Stop wasting your money. Lysine was shown to inhibit herpes virus in the test tube, but does not inhibit the virus in humans. Antivirals such as Valtrex and Zovirax can dramatically reduce the outbreaks. The natural course of the disease is that the first outbreak tends to be bad, then the subsequent outbreaks not so bad and fewer and further between. You can either take an antiviral daily, or keep it on hand to start at the first sign of an outbreak - burning, itching, etc. It can stop the outbreak in its tracks. It usually turns out not as bad as people expect it to be. And although everyone feels dirty when they get it - it only takes one exposure, it can happen even when you are being careful, and you can get it from someone who doesn't even know that they have it. It might inhibit a woman from jumping into the sack with you if you are honest with her, but it won't inhibit a woman who loves you from starting a relationship with you.
