Why am I not loosing weight?

Hi my name is Stacy and I've been working out 3 days a week for the past 3 months.  In the past 2 months I have really steped up my workout.  I run for 10 min on the treadmill and then get on the stairmaster for 20 min.  I sweat so much I love it.  Then I go do 100 crunches and at least one day a week I do arms.  And have just recently started doing inner and outer thigh machines.  I'm 25, 5'5 and weigh 140.  This is the most that I have ever weighed and I fell very unconfertable.  I would love to loose at least 10 pounds.  I eat oatmeal in the morning ( but it is sweeted), a gronola bar at 10, lunch is a turkey sandwhich whith maybe a small helping of light chips, yorgert around 3 and dinner is grilled chicken with veggies and cheese.  I have stoped drinking pop since last week.  And I will admit that on the weekends I do have a cheeseburger or pizza.  But I wolud think that because I have been working out hard 3 times a week that I would at least loose some weight. I do feel alot better about myself since I started but I want my old body back!  What more do I need to do?

Thanks,
Stac

Hi Stac,
I really know what you are talking about! I'm exercising almost every day but it doesn't give me the effect I wish to get...
I guess your problem really is the nutrition. Maybe your metabolism is very slow so even when you exercise quite often and intense it cannot metabolize all the calories.
I wish you all the best and good luck!
Did you ever think about dietary supplement?

Hi again,
Just wanted to check back and see if things have improved for you since your posting.
Keep up the good work.  It will come.  Sometimes the body will change it's level of calorie burning, to protect against losing too much.  I know it sounds weird, but it's from our evolutionary history.  We tend to slow down by about 200cal/day in the fall/winter too.  Kind of a hibernation thing.  That's part of why people gain in the winter.
Anyways...best of luck!!

Nutrition is the key to a healthy body. FDA says that each person should be eating 7 - 13 servings of fruit a day. That is impossible! For a year I have been trying to lose weight, finally, I dropped 2 pants sizes in a month! My sister has lost 35 lbs in 3 months and looks great. I haven't changed my eating habits much, I drink MonaVie. In just 2 ounces in the morning and 2 at night I get all my servings of fruits. My overall health is better, sleep better, and i'm not tired all the time. If you would like more info on this let me know.

diet plan 5 meals a day, reduce carbs, only carbs allowed are white rice 1 cub and whole grain bread, the key to the carbs is not eating over 7 servings of bread/rice/any other grain a day. Limit yourself. candy no candy. Milk no milk.  FIBER!! all fiber u want to eat, helps great. I lostr 100lbs in 6 months by adding fiber to my diet. Right now im 215 6'2 body fat% of 15% and before i was 35% body fat and 270, i went down to 180 and had 21%body fat.  MORE FIBER MORE CARDIO MORE PROTEIN less carbs!

110grams of protein a day! turkey,fish,proteinshakes
carbs rice,wholegrainbread.wheat, nothin else
fiber! all bran or high in fiber supplement.

more weights, more cardio. Run 40 minutes at a 5mph rate then do situps, and weight training for each muscle, not heavy though.

Hello,
I am a Kinesiologist.  I had many clients tell me the same thing.
As for myself, I have experienced the same thing as you.
My advice for your exercise is to mix it up more.  Lower intensity work-outs, for longer.  45-60 minutes.  At a fat-burning intensity level.  Your workouts are high intensity.  Still good, but the main fuel isn't from fat.  Do some of both.
As for the resistance training... that won't spot reduce any fat.  If you train hard enough to increase muscle, then great.  one lb of muscle will burn an extra 50 calories/day.  Think about that.  add 3lbs of muscle.  150 cal per day.  What is that per month?  Per year?
Next, where do you store your fat?  Abdomen?  Maybe you have Syndrome X.  Insulin resistance.  That causes you to store more fat.  When I look at what you are eating...oatmeal, bread, granola... You want to choose low glycemic foods.  My friend, also a Kinesiologist, told me about Usana.  Her site is www.nutriceuticals.usana.com.  I tried their Nutrimeal and bars...and I lost 9kg!!
Worth a shot...
I hope that helps :)

The diet plan that you mentioned has potential to be quite deceiving, depending on what types you are eating.  The sweetened oatmeal, the granola bar, the turkey sandwich, and yogurt... All of them have a habit of appearing to be healthy choices, with a lot of nasty posers out there.

Read labels closely, and avoid hydrogenated oils, high fructose corn syrup and products full of sugar.  I would try to divide your meals into 5-6 small meals per day to keep your blood sugar stable and your metabolism going.

A helpful book for you might be "The Abs Diet" (look for a bright green book for women) which is sold at Target and Meijer.  It talks about building muscle to burn calories around the clock (which is something cardio could never do), includes "powerfoods" and recipes AND even includes a cheat day :)  This book is a very handy tool, especially since it goes into depth regarding fad diets and their flaws.

I'm no pro but, even sometimes when you think your eating right, there can still be tons of calories and sugar in what you eat.  I'll make some suggestions for your meals.  I have about 15lbs to loose after I had my baby 5 months ago. So I'm trying just like you.
For oatmeal, I like Mcanns or Kashi oatmeal (fiber is great for you) I usually eat it with water instead of milk.  And if I need a little extra, I add some banana.  Maybe for your snack, try a fruit. Some of those granola bars have lots of calories. Maybe a hand ful of almonds and an apple.  Or a cup of healthy choice popcorn. Lunch sound food, try to stay away from mayo, and even though some wheat bread has more calories then white, (wheat 100 - White 60 approx) it's better for you. easy with the cheese.
I think a good idea is on the weekend, eat what you want, but eat half. Like if you want a burger, eat half of what you normally eat. You will cut down dramatically on calories.
One more suggestions, I would step up the stair master to maybe 30-40.  That should help :) Good luck
