Over analyzing a no risk?

I recently read about dentist reusing needles
both in the mid west and at a Va clinic
I have never heard of this before
from what I understand no one
could have contracted HIV
mostly a hep risk
but a story in Asia were two men may have
contracted HIV from their dentist but cant prove it
and I read 15% of people with HIV don’t know were they got it
But the idea hit me what if
the dentist pocked him/her self before
the injection and never did any thing about it
is their a possible risk for HIV?
I don’t know the gauge of the needles used
but I was wondering.
any information on if HIV is transmitted this way
would be greatly appreciated.

Do you know if there is any up to date stats on how long HIV stays active in a syringe? or needle tip?

Hi there.  So the way an IV drug user passes on the HIV virus to another drug user is becasue they immediately pass the needle on to the next person.  In order for an HIV infection to start it needs to get deep into the tissue.  If you look up the statistics, you will see that even for a healthcare worker that pokes themselves with an HIV tainted needle, there is a less than 1 percent chance they will become infected.  It is not that easy to get actually.

I can't say for sure that needles have not been reused obviously but I'm thinking 99.9% of the time this does not happen in the healthcare setting.  A person's practice could be shut down so unless you are going to some shack in the woods to get dentistry done, I don't think you need to worry about this.

Have you been diagnosed with HIV anxiety and have you gotten treatment for it?  Or do you have other irrational thinking tendencies that would put you in the OCD category?

Thanks for your reply and concern, but no this hasten been a problem till now for some reason  i know I should have read through the forum before posting any thing It was just the thought would not change no matter what I read and that’s never happen before if some thing bother me I would just look it up and get over it and move on and that would be the end of it till now. i just wanted to understand the mechanics of it. And I could not find the part of the Synge that goes overs the first needle on the web so that was some what the problem I made a post on the dental forum trying to figure it out.
