Achill tendon

I underwent open surgery to repair a completely ruptured achilles tendon 17 days ago. After surgery my foot was immobilized in plantar flexion (shank/foot = approx.135 degres). Is it a tenet also in USA that the leg should stay in this position for at least 3-4 weeks?
thanks
Jani

Depending on the strength of the repair, and the amount of tendon lost to injury and degeneration, it may be necessary to immobilize the ankle in the equinus to avoid undue stress on the repair.  When the repair has healed sufficiently, the ankle is gradually restore to neutral.
