13 yr old's hip is "popping"

My 13 yr has been complaining of her hip "popping". She is a soccer player and it occasionally bothers her while playing but yesterday about 4 hrs after the game was over and she was sitting in the car- she had sharp stabbing pain in her hip. She was absolutely hysterical with the pain. She is not a dramatic child and she actually was starting to scare me.  Could it just be a groin strain?

those symptoms are also caused by a labral tear in the hip socket. hope she feels better. i suggest a sports medicine dr. specializing in the hips.  orthopedician drs dont really have expertice in sports injuries.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello!

I would suggest you to take her to an orthopedician for an examination. It can be snapping hip syndrome.

Snapping hip syndrome is a condition that is characterized by a snapping sensation, and often an audible 'popping' noise, when the hip is flexed and extended. This can occur after a fall or injury. There are several causes for snapping hip syndrome, most commonly due to tendons catching on bony prominences and "snapping" when the hip is moved.

X-ray is required initially. She has to be checked for labral tears, iliopsoas tendon snap or any other local pathology.

Take care!
