5th Metatarsal Fracture

Hi, I broke my 5th Metatarsal and I am being treated by a podiatrist. My podiatrist thinks that my x-ray demonstrates a jones fracture however I believe it is a Avulsion fracture due to the location. Can someone please clarify what fracture I have?

We're not doctors on here.  If you want a second opinion, you might try seeing an orthopedic surgeon who specializes in the foot, as you've already seen a podiatrist.

Not a Jones. It's more of an avulsion fracture (Zone 1 where  jones is Zone 2). Jones enters the 4-5 joint where yours more enters the cuboid-5th articulation. Jones fractures are bad actors because they are less likely to heal because they reside in a vascular watershed area. yours should heal just fine with time. Usually 6-8 but not uncommon for this to take 3 months to see healing. Remmeber that x-ray healing lags behind actual healing because first the body puts cartilage like substance and then bone grows overtop. I'd go off your pain and symptoms but it's good to get interval x-rays to make sure that fracture isn't gapping a bunch.
