Ankle Brace Recommendation

Hi,

I'm wondering if I could get a recommendation/advice for an ankle brace. I play ultimate frisbee, which involves a lot of starting, stopping, jumping, and cutting. At the moment, my ankle isn't having any major problems or pain, but I have a long history of sprains and twisting it from playing soccer in the past, and would like to prevent that.

I'm also looking for something not too bulky (don't want to change my shoe size), something fairly durable, and something not too expensive (my price range goes up to $25-30).

Thanks!

Traditionally most people "twist" their ankle inward (called an inversion injury).  If this applies to you than you want to look for something with medial and lateral stays to help prevent the rolling of the ankle. They work by supporting the outside of the ankle while applying light pressure to the inside - thereby preventing your ankle from inverting.   Depuy makes a decent lace up style brace that isn't bulky at all, and you can buy them on ebay, amazon, etc. Hope this helps.

I don't know if you have insurance but I would suggest seeing an orthopedist. They would have braces that they can bill your insurance for (make sure you have this benefit on your insurance plan). They typically will have a couple good braces to try on you. Another suggestion would be a sporting foods store. I've also seen some braces at the drug store but I have no idea how well they would protect your ankle.
