Bone bruise and Leg Laceration

I was in an ATV accident about a month ago. I split open my leg and bruised a bone. Since then, the ankle and the area around the wound have been swollen (though improving incrementally).

For three weeks, I was using crutches or not moving at all with the leg elevated. My last visit to my orthopedic doctor, he told me to begin stretching the ankle and doing what doesn't cause me pain.

Stretching has brought back significant ankle motion. I have begun walking with a limp.

I am wondering if I am further damaging m
The healing process ot causing permanent damage by using the ankle at all.
