Can't regain range of motion in elbow

I had a non displaced fracture of the elbow 8 months ago. I went through months of physical therapy, used a dynasplint, and have now been in the gym working hard to regain my range of motion. I seem to have hit a plateau..I can't regain fully functional ROM. I don't expect to get it exactly where it was at pre-fracture, but it's still quite far from where it should be. I'm 24, in very good shape and I have put a lot of effort forth. There is also still swelling around my elbow. Any suggestions for further measures I can take?

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hi there!

Well, without knowing the relevant clinical details or a detailed clinical evaluation it would be difficult to comment specifically on the situation. Possible causes of inadequate gain of strength could be mal-union fracture, injuries to muscles/ ligaments, inappropriate physical therapy etc. I would suggest considering a review with your treating orthopedician to rule out orthopedic causes. Once these have been ruled out, I would suggest seeing a physiotherapist for appropriate exercises to help gain muscle strength.
Hope this is helpful.

Take care!
