Fractured fingers

I broke my pinky finger and ring finger on Friday while out for a run. I tripped over an uneven surface.

The pinky finger has a couple breaks (was sticking out to the side from the fist knuckle!) and the ring finger has only an undisplaced break.

I am in a cast to my elbow for now until I get to the plastics clinic on Thursday.

I have two questions:

1. Is it normal for my other fingers on the same hand to be really swollen?

2. Why does my ring finger, the one with only the undisplaced fracture hurt most of all! The ER staff had a really tough time getting my wedding band off before they knew that my ring finger was broken - Could this be why it's so sore?

Thanks!

1, Yes. The entire hand can swell.
2. Could be. I wasn't there as a witness. Regardless, broken bones hurt, especially in the hands where we have plenty of sensory nerves.
