How long will a broken 5th metatarsal left foot heal?

My 5th metatarsal has been broken for 9 weeks. I think it was a jones fracture (looks like 1-2 from online research, but not sure) My week 6 xrays showed that the bone was mending, but it was still very swollen to walk on. The foot wasn't cast, but placed in a walking boot. I was told no put no pressure on it and to keep elevated. The student doctor advised that at 6 weeks, i could keep the walking cast off as long as i was in bed and placed no pressure on it which i then did. I had the walking cast off for 3 weeks. I just received my week 9 xrays and the fracture opened back up again. the doctor said my foot will never heal and to start to walk on it. im afraid to damage the fracture more, and would like it to heal. should i continue to not walk on it? But this time keep the boot on 24/7 in hopes that the fracture mends itself? my next xrays is in 4 weeks from now. how long should i keep no pressure on it, ive kept no pressure for 9 weeks.
