Knee locking when sliding help

I cannot slide on my knee without it popping and locking in a way I can beat describe as my knee getting stuck closed to the point where I have to squeeze it as tightly closed as possible. The pain is 10/10 and I can only unlocking it by hanging my knee over my other leg while lying on my stomach relieving pressure on the outside of the knee. This all started beginning when I injured my knee sliding on wet grass my cleat got stuck and twisted my ankle. At first the locking would occur multiple times a week and was extreme. Mri’s including a contrast were clean. I no longer deal with the problem except for the fact I cannot preform the exact slide that injured it. Sliding like a baseball slide on the knee forcing it all the way closed with my whole body weight while twisting my ankle inwards. If I do this slide the knee will lock and I will be in extreme pain and it will be swollen for the next couple days. I have received diagnosis from knee cap dislocation to there’s no way it’s a knee cap dislocation to almost recently an unnoticeable in an mri bucket handle meniscus tear where the meniscus could be folding over. I believe this could be the problem and that over the years it has healed itself but anytime I slide on it with all that pressure and force it re injures the tear. My question is has anyone dealt with this specific type of locking before specifically from preforming a baseball like slide like this. The pain is located on the outside of the knee almost feels like where the it band is located on the hinge of the joint. I need to be able to preform this slide and I cannot and have not been able to for the past 2 tears. Anyone ever dealt with something like this before thank you for any help it is greatly appreciated.

Hi.  So, you are trying to recreate the original slide that injured you?  Is this of necessity to you?  My husband was a pretty serious baseball player (high school and college both) and then played softball on a competitive team more for fun.  He no longer plays because he hurt his calf.  Body wears out and gets old.  While it bums him out,  he still enjoys the sport as a spectator and coach.  I don't know your age and if it is essential you still play ball and slide into base.  That's for you to decide. But I personally do avoid something that causes me pain even if it didn't used to.

With that said, have you looked into Iliotibial band syndrome?  My kids call it band syndrome. It's semi common with their peers in athletics (they are high school age).  Lots of runners get this, for example.  Pain on the outside of the knee is very often associated with it.  You don't seem to have the typical cause but the pain seems a bit similar?   https://www.webmd.com/pain-management/it-band-syndrome#1  And as you know have already researched, yes, that could also be a meniscus tear.  you need to get that examined and sorted out though so that it doesn't become worse or more serious if this is what it is.  Do you have an orthopedic doctor you can see?
