Left leg suddenly becomes longer, discomfort on left hip

Hello,
About 5 months ago, after a day of manual work and physical effort, I sat down on the sofa. When I got up, I noticed that my left leg had suddenly become longer. No pain, only discomfort. I limped for a few days until I got used to the difference in leg length.
I think I should mention the following: over the last few years that I have been experiencing discomfort on my left hip, e.g. after physical exercise or long walks, and sometimes I used to hear clicking noises. I never had pain and the discomfort usually goes away in a matter of hours.
I wonder, what could have happened to my hip and leg this time, and what is the prognosis?
Regards,
Daniel

Are you sure it got longer?  Do you actually check it all that often?  I never have.  But if you have some structural problem going on, the person to see is an orthopedic surgeon, who will send you for X-rays and MRIs and tell you if there's something going on with your hip.

I'm sure it got longer. I feel the difference every time I stand up or walk. Now, there's something new, the clicks on the left leg that existed for many years are basically gone; however, for the first time in my life, the clicks started on the right leg... Any idea, does it help for the diagnosis?
