MRI of the cervical

what does diffuse intervertebral disk space desiccation and space narrowing at c5-6 and c6-7 mean? There is also an elongated central zone of high signal in the spinal cord extending from C3-4 to C7-T1 and a subtle slightly extensive area of elongated central diminished T1 signal. It also shows a mild thecal sac effacement on the midline sagittal views at C3-4,C4-5,C5-6,C6-7, and C7-T1. Is this concerning? How chronic is it - what kind of treatment is recommended? Any information you can share is greatly appreciated.

Hi Marie!
Intervertebral disk space desiccation and space narrowing is a degenerative process that cannot be halted but its progression slowed down through treatment. The hyperintense lesion that was hypointense on T1 could be due to myeloma, myelomalacia, multiple sclerosis, or tumor. Treatment will depend on the cause. However, you will need physiotherapy, pain killers and other investigations. Please discuss with your doctor. Take care!

The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history. Hence this reply to your post should only be considered as a guiding line and you must consult your doctor at the earliest for your medical problem.
