Partial ACL tear with KNEE joint effusion (does it need surgery)?

Hi,

I injured my knee playing soccer 3 weeks ago, and done and MRI

Results are the there is a partial ACL tear with knee joint effusion.

My doctor says i have to undergo an Arthroscopy on the knee joint (Menisectomy)

I was only wondering if it is really necessary to perform the operation, or would it heal by itself?

I think so because many doctors are becoming more commercial these days and worried that surgery can have a rather negative effect if nor required.

Appreciate an answer ASAP, as my surgery is scheduled within 24 hours :S

thanks
