Is using a cushion a good idea under the legs for lower back pain?

I use a pillow between my legs when sleeping sideway.  I also heard that putting a pillow underneath the knees when laying flat on my back is good.

However, I am just wondering if the pillow underneath the legs created more bending and pushing my buttocks downwards more.

Thank you in advance for your input

You probably want to ask a massage therapist or chiropractor or physical therapist exactly where to put the pillow if you know one, but yes, putting a pillow there is often used by practitioners who have patients with neck and back problems.  What I'm not sure is putting it under the knees, as I seem to recall them putting it more under the legs closer to the feet.  What you want to find out is exactly where the pillow should go, but the general idea is practiced.
