Question about cervical injury

I had a whiplash injury in June and found a great doctor to help with pain.  He is a pain management physician.

He told me at my last visit that my pain is from my accident and that I should get an attorney.

He said his diagnosis is cervical facet arthropathy from trauma.

Today I get his report and it says his assessments are
1. Cervical Spondylosis
2. Cervical facet arthropathy

Now those seem to contradict each other.

Spondylosis seems to mean age related degeneration like arthritis.

facet arthropathy means injury from trauma like whiplash.

Why do you think he put that spondylosis down if he told me to get an attorney.

The other side will say this is from an age related arthritis.

I am guessing he made a mistake since he said it was from a sudden injury and not age related.

Does anyone know if these 2 diagnoses go together?

I received a call today from my doctors office.  The nurse asked the Dr. the question I asked above.

He said that both diagnoses can be trauma based and not age related degeneration.

Is he mistaken?

Thank you very much for your reply Dr.

I am very concerned about this then because this could completely let the party responsible for my injuries off the hook.

The doctor said specifically I had a whiplash injury and said it was facet arthropathy.  He never mentioned this spondylosis.

I am only 38 years old and have never been treated for back or neck pain or injuries.

He must have made an error.  He has never mentioned this to me.

MEDICAL PROFESSIONAL
Hello!

What is your age? The cervical spondylosis is a degenerative condition of the cervical spine found in persons who are normally above 45-50 who pursue "while collar jobs" or also affect people those who are susceptible to neck strain because of keeping the neck constantly in one position while reading, writing, etc.

X-rays of the cervical spine (AP & Lat views) are sufficient in most of the cases as there is narrowing for intervertebral disk spaces most commonly between C5-C6.

Whiplash is completely different and this is due to the sudden movements of the spine due to accident related injury.

Take care!

found this:

Whiplash
# Cervical spondylosis can also be more commonly known as "whiplash" when the trauma of a car accident is involved. The sudden and violent movement of the neck can cause the discs in between the skeletal regions of the spine to herniate. This in turn puts pressure on the nerves and causes cervical spondylosis.
