Severe Hip Pain

HI
I am a 40 year old female.  I have been diagnosed with fibromyalgia and bursitis in both hips.  I have back pain and basically all the symptoms to go with the fibro.  Both have been diagnosed a few years ago.  I was in a severe car accident in 1991.  I have been the phisical therapy route a few different times with no relief.  I visit my doctor regularly the last time about 2 months ago.  Over the past few days I have developed severe pain in my left hip.  The worst of the pain is on the top of my hip and radiates around to my back and to my abdomen area and down the front of my pelvis into the thigh.  Tonight the pain is very bad on a scale of 1-10 it is a 9.5.. My leg nearly went out from underneath me a couple times.  The bursitis has never been this bad before and I am not sure what is going on. Anyone who can offer some sort of advice or help it would be great.  I am going to call my doctor and get an appointment.  I just need to know what some may think now.  The pain is very bad and I have taken relievers and it is still bad.  Thank you.

HI Felicia,
I am dealing with the same type of pain in the same areas. No matter what I do, how I lay (mostly impossible) or sit there is no getting comfortable. I have to at least lay with pillows between my legs and I can not lay on my left side at all. I'm also in another country which makes it more difficult to explain and get help. So please, whatever you find out post on the site. I'm desparate to stop the pain. It's really unbearable. Good luck to you.

I have been dealing with back, leg, and hip pain for two years. I have tried a chiropractor, physical therapy, joined a gym(on the advice of a neurosurgeon)to strengthen my core, have had back surgery(for a cyst removal-which did not lessen my pain),have taken naprosyn, advil and am on cymbalta for my fibromyalgia and take neurontin for nerve pain(for my sciatica). I am now seeing a rhuematologist who has treated me for SI joint pain with cortisone and lido injections and  now they say I have hip bursitis and have been treated with more injections.I have even cut my hours down at work because of the pain. I am waiting to see if this works now. It is just so frustrating to keep suffering and not be able to do daily living like I want to. If anyone else out there has any more ideas or suggestions I would really appreciate it. Thanks all. DB RRT

I am sorry that I am posting again.  I went to my doctor today with this hip pain that I have described.  They said it is nothing but inflamation and put me on Medrol for the next few days.  I don't think that this is just inflamation, how could inflamation cause this much pain.  I am off the charts with pain.  I cant get comfortable while sitting the pain shoots from my hip into my pelvis then down my inner thigh.  While standing I cant even bear weight on my left leg.  I called an ortho and cant get in till the 14th.  Anyone out there that can offer any advice I would really appreciate it. Please.

I was told I had severe Bursitus by two doctors one in the ER on pain management specialist i was prescribed predisone and kenalog injections. My pain only got worse for 5 months.

Unrelated I was attacked and beaten and spent 4 days in the ER. When  I got home I went back for a follow up appointment the Dr. Diagnosed me with Stage IV AVN both hips and that predisone could be the main cause.

I will need both hips replaced with in the next 1-2 years
