Severe pain in upper thigh (hamstring?)

Starting about two weeks ago, I have noticed that sitting on a chair with my knees crossed was becoming uncomfortable.  I practice yoga 1-3 times a week, and I am used to streatching and am pretty flaxible.  This discomfort has been pretty new to me.  I don't recall doing anything particular to pull my muscle or hurt my nerves.

I sespect it is my right hamstring that hurts.  It is where the buttox meets the back of the thigh (on the right).  When I lie down on a flat surface (face down or up), I don't feel too much pain (slight tingling sensation is present though).  Going up the stairs hurts a lot.  Going down the stairs is okay.

I have been taking Advil for pain management, but it really isn't helping.  Heating pad seems to help, but I can't wear a heating pad all day.

Based on my description, does anybody have any suggestions to what type of doctor I should see?

I am a healthy 30-year old female.

Thanks!

Thank you.  I went to see a doctor today, and she prescribed me Ibuprofen 800mg and muscle relaxers.  I am feeling a lot better now my pain is taken cared for.  I will rest and take it easy for a while.

Thanks again!

Hello marikod,

Continue the ongoing therapy. You should consult a physiotherapist for the management of the pain. It seems that you have some acute muscle spasm. Muscle realaxation exercises would gradually help. Take rest.
