How do you medicate, or treat a "shoulder Impingement Syndrome" problem at home (and achieve results), without having to go to all the different specialists ?

Hi,
Thanks for writing in. Shoulder impingement syndrome is a result of chronic wear and tear in the shoulder joi9nt which can be due to calcified coracoacromial ligament, acromioclavicular joint arthritis and weakness of rotator cuff muscles etc. Pain, weakness and loss of motion are the common symptoms.
The treatment depends upon the extent of damage. Conservative treatment involves rest, ice packs, NSAID’s, physical therapy and cortisone injections. Surgical treatment is by subacromial decompression.
Consult a orthopedician for further assistance.
Best.

Thanks for the info. The pain that I have is right on top (collar bone meets shoulder). Many years of Judo has created this.
Would I be correct in discribing this problem as "shoulder Impingement" in your experience.
Most painfull when hunching, or dropping shoulder forwards, also reaching backwards.

Either way I will take your advise and go see the doc.

Thanks again

Hi,
Thanks for writing in. Shoulder impingement syndrome is a result of damage to rotator cuff. Rotator cuff is the muscles and tendons around the shoulder joint which enable the arm to move in all directions. This can occur in sports persons like in swimming, golf, over head arm movements and in rheumatoid arthritis.
It is difficult to say what it is until physical examination and x-rays are seen. It could be dislocation or a fracture or rotator cuff injury.
Consult a orthopedician for further assistance.
Best.
